Pastor Steven Turikunkiko has set up a community in Rwanda for victims of the genocide. 160 widows & teenagers & 80 younger children live with him; farming, sharing their lives and caring for those dying from AIDS. The community subsists on less than $1 per person per day. At enormous personal sacrifice, Pastor Steven and his wife have also adopted 20 orphans - who live with them and their 2 other children. Christians jailed for human trafficking
In Egypt, Muslims are not allowed to adopt children. However, Christians are allowed to - although the process can be torturously slow and administratively burdensome. As a result, many couples will resort to forging documents and paying bribes. The four parents found guilty of trafficking are Egyptian-born Christians who hold US residency. They must also pay a fine of $18,000 each. Seven Egyptians have also been sentenced with regard to this case for proving forged documentation. They have all been sentenced to prison and must pay heavy fines. |
