Pastor Steven Turikunkiko has set up a community in Rwanda for victims of the genocide. 160 widows & teenagers & 80 younger children live with him; farming, sharing their lives and caring for those dying from AIDS. The community subsists on less than $1 per person per day. At enormous personal sacrifice, Pastor Steven and his wife have also adopted 20 orphans - who live with them and their 2 other children. Surge in the number of priests is welcomed
26 will study at Maynooth, 7 in Belfast, 2 in Rome and 1 in Valladolid, Spain. The student priests range in age from 18-45 years old. Whilst the Catholic Church welcomes the rise in numbers, Fr Paddy Rushe, National Co-ordinator of Diocesan Vocation Directors knows that in is unlikely that vocations will ever rise to the numbers experienced in the 50s and 60s. For now, though, the church is celebrating its success this year.

More students priests are entering the Seminary in Ireland than for a decade, research has shown. 38 are entering their training this September - the highest number since the 46 who entered training in 1999.
