Teenage pirate on trial
There is some confusion about his name and age. It is thought that he is called Abdiwali Abdiqadir Muse and that he is 18 years old. His parents in Somalia, though, have said that he is ony 16 and should not face trial. They have asked to come and be with him throughout his trial, asking for clemency from Barack Obama, stating that their son was lured by pirates with the promise of money and that he didn't know what he was getting himself into... His lawyer has suggested that his arrest may have been illegal because he had come aboard the USS Bainbridge under a flag of truce to negotiate. |

A Somali teenager has become the first pirate to be put on trial in the United States for 100 years. He arrived in court in handcuffs with a chain around his waist to answer charges on piracy and hostage-taking.
