Pastor Steven Turikunkiko has set up a community in Rwanda for victims of the genocide. 160 widows & teenagers & 80 younger children live with him; farming, sharing their lives and caring for those dying from AIDS. The community subsists on less than $1 per person per day. At enormous personal sacrifice, Pastor Steven and his wife have also adopted 20 orphans - who live with them and their 2 other children. Drug addiction and State Care link is discovered There is a clear link between alcohol and drug addiction amongst the young and State Care upbringing. That is the finding of recent research from Otago University's Christchurch National Addiction Centre.62% of young men attending treatment have either mental health problems or have been in state care at some time in their life. 56% had previous criminal convictions and 40% had been in Child, Youth and Family Care. There is an alarming 50% drop-out rate for treatment. Most of these are as a result of disciplinary issues. The study is published in the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Psychiatry |
