"Open up to the Gospel," says Pope

China flagPope Benedict XVI said China must “open up” to Christ, according to the Catholic News Agency.

He was speaking at the grave of St. Joseph Freinademetz. He was an Italian missionary who worked in China. The Pope said that St. Joseph's example shoed that “faith does not alienate any culture or people, because all cultures are waiting for Christ and will not be destroyed. In the Lord, they reach their maturity.”

On Sunday, Pope Benedict sent his best wishes to China as it opens the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
