Youth Priest Murdered in Nepal
Fr. John was a priest in the Salesian order, dedictaed to the educational and social welfare of young people. He has worked in Nepal for more than 10 years and was Principal of the Don Bosco shool there. He was killed by armed men who broke into his home, demanding money. It appears that, during the struggle, the armed men exploded a bomb, killing Fr. John. Police suspect that the terrorist group, the Terai Defence Army, are behind the attack. The Salesians in Morang district run education projects and also help provide healthcare for mothers and children as well as training for pastoral work amongst the local community. It is estimated that there are 7,000 Catholics in Nepal, amongst a population of 25,000,000.

The assassination of Father John Prakash, in the Morang district of Nepal, is the first such incident in that country.
